Campaigns help us raise awareness about important issues that effect how women journalists work. Our campaigns aim to highlight areas and conversations that are often neglected in the industry. Some of our campaigns run on social media platforms, while others involve multi-pronged approach working with stakeholders and collaborators.

May 3, 2021 marks World Press Freedom Day, which represents the fundamental rights and freedoms of journalists, The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) continues to document the violations of rights against women journalists, the threats and attacks they face and the harassment cases against them. On International Women’s Day 2021, The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) salutes all the hardworking and dedicated women journalists for their extraordinary contributions. The Coalition’s Human Rights Day Campaign 2020 looked at several cases of threats and violence against women journalists around the world in the year of 2020. Since the beginning of the year, we documented at least 701 threats and intimidation as of December 10, including murder, attacked in the field, detention, legal harassment, major online trolling campaigns, arrest. On the beginning of the United Nations’ 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, The Coalition For Women In Journalism expresses its utmost concern for women journalists' safety around the world. This campaign is one of the activities in an overall campaign of the 16 days organized by CFWIJ to highlight and address the issue of violence against women journalists.

The Coalition’s Press Freedom Day Campaign 2020 looked at the challenges that women journalists are facing around the world every day. First quarter of 2020 hasn’t been easy for women journalists. We documented almost 150 threats and intimidation between January and April alone, including deportations, imprisonments and deaths. CFWIJ’s Violence Against Women Journalists Campaign kicked off at the end of 2019. It focuses on the different forms of abuse and threats that we documented through the years, including imprisonments and murders. It also gives a voice to women journalists around the world to speak up about the violence they have encountered and offer solutions for the same. The CFWIJ #ThreatsToWIJ campaign was developed in 2017. It was a pioneering twitter campaign that brought together women journalists from several parts of the world, to raise voice and awareness about safety related issue they faced in everyday journalism. Leading and mid-career women reporters, editors and newsroom staff shared anecdotes that explained challenges and possible solutions in the newsroom and in the field.
