THE CFWIJ MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR MID-CAREER WOMEN JOURNALISTS
The CFWIJ mentorship program is an effort to address the gaps that women journalists encounter in advancing in their careers. Our one on one long term mentorship program connect selected Fellows for the CFWIJ Mentorship Program to senior women journalists who have tackled some the biggest challenges in their own careers, including issues such as the glass ceiling, pay gap, stress, burn out, and more.
“One of our key focus areas is emotional and physical wellbeing of women journalists. We have opted to work with mid-career journalists particularly because our research shows that women journalists after four to five years in their career get more discouraged and are likely to suffer with anxiety, stress, lack of creativity, plateau in their careers and sometime even give up on journalism altogether,” said our founding director Kiran Nazish. “We don’t want women and other diverse voices in journalism to leave at such a critical time in their careers. Diversity in journalism is the most critical element of news and reporting, offering context and balance to an otherwise slanted narrative. Our mentorship program ensures with diverse background get the help they need.”
Our mentorship programs is open in any part of the world. If you are a mid-career journalists and wish to find a mentor in your country, we will try to help.
The Mentorship Machinery
Some of the most notable names in journalism fill up our global list of mentors. Connect with a global mentor if your reporting is focused on more than one country.
Mentors from our Mexico/Latin America and Asia chapters have made a mark in the local journalism sectors. If you wish to connect with a mentor not available in this list, we can try to accommodate that. Send us a query.
Our #HeForShe program includes male mentors who assist us both in the mentorship program but also beyond that. We believe that a stronger journalism industry can only exist when men and women work together as a unit. Our amazing #HeForShe members assist us in the support work for women colleagues.
