NICARAGUA, MANAGUA, December 22 — The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns Lucía Pineda Ubau's arrest.

Police and paramilitary forces stormed the office of 100% Noticias and arrested Lucía Pineda Ubau and her colleague Miguel Mora on December 22, 2018.

Both the journalists have been accused of inciting violence and hatred and promoting terrorism. The arrest comes as a result of the protests against Daniel Ortega and the Nicaraguan government.

Pineda Ubau served as the News Director of 100% Noticias, and had been connected with the organization for over 10 years.

Despite the looming threat of arrest, Lucía stayed at her office to report on the events unfolding around her. When she was alerted that the police and paramilitary forces were advancing towards the facility, she chose to report instead of trying to find cover.

Lucía Pineda Ubau has more than two decades of experience as a journalist and has covered a wide range of issues during this time.

We urge authorities to immediately stop the crackdown on journalists and ensure the release of both the journalists. It is important that voices such as Lucía Pineda Ubau are not stifled. For more inform.
