Uganda: CFWIJ expresses its grief at the passing of journalist Sheila Nakabuye
/May 18, 2021, Mbarara - Journalist Sheila Nakabuye was pronounced dead by a medical team at the Mbarara Regional Referral at around 8 am on Monday May 17. Nakabuye was 32 years of age and passed away due to complications in childbirth.
Sheila Nakabuye, NBS TV's south western Uganda bureau chief and a strong voice for democratic principles and social justice passed away yesterday morning. Nakabuye gave birth to her daughter on Saturday through a C-section at Cedus Clinic in Rwebikoona Mbarara where she was initially admitted. However, on Sunday, she underwent seizures and went into a comatose state because of which she was urgently moved to the Mbarara Regional Referral where she passed away on Monday morning.
Her employer firm NBS confirmed the news in a tweet. Her colleagues describe her as a hard worker and remember her warm personality in her passing.
The Coalition For Women In Journalism is deeply saddened to hear of Nakabuye’s death. Strong voices like hers make the journalist community stronger and richer. The loss of her person and her voice would remain irrecoverable. We extend our deepest condolences to her friends and family at this time.
