United States: CFWIJ members Jane Ferguson and Nicholas Kristof presented with Aurora Humanitarian Journalism Award

October 19, 2020, New York, United States -- The Coalition For Women In Journalism is thrilled that our global mentor Jane Ferguson and Board of Advisors member Nicholas Kristof will be presented with the inaugural Aurora Humanitarian Journalism Award today on October 19, 2020, during the first event of the “Gratitude in Action” series planned to mark Aurora’s fifth anniversary. The “Gratitude in Action” is a series of charity events aimed to increase the impact of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative.Through the funds of this inaugural event Aurora will donate a special grant to the Committee to Protect Journalists in order to amplify the work of CPJ in promoting press freedom worldwide. The event will be broadcasted in auroraprize.com.

Jane Ferguson is an award-winning International Correspondent for the PBS NewsHour. Her work has been awarded the prestigious George Polk Award, an Emmy Award, and an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Award. She is also a grantee of the Pulitzer Center and is currently a guest Professor of Journalism at Princeton University where I teach a course on War Reporting. Jane spent over a decade covering the Middle East and Afghanistan and she mentors CFWIJ mentees on their personal professional growth as foreign correspondents. 

Nicholas Kristof is an op-ed columnist for the New York Times covering human rights, women’s rights, social justice and global affairs. He is the recipient of two Pulitzer Prizes for his coverage of Tiananmen Square and the genocide in Darfur in addition to many humanitarian awards. Nicholas is the author of several books including the number one best sellers “A Path Appears” and “Half the Sky”.
